The retail companies in the green sector made a very good start to the 2019 financial year. However, the second quarter was a major challenge for garden centers and DIY stores, but most companies coped with it. The weather impact was retroactively lower than initially feared.

Through forward-looking planning in terms of quantity planning and additional advertising measures, retailers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria managed to weather the slump in sales and sales in the second quarter.

The BHB announced that revenue increased by 4.8% in the first half of 2019. This corresponds to a value at retail prices of 10.23 billion euros in Germany and 1.37 billion euros in Austria. Swiss do-it-yourself dealers increased sales by 2.9% to 1.56 billion euros.

These numbers also include hardware assortments. However, it is very noteworthy that during the reporting period the earth / seed sector increased by 12.6% compared to the previous year. Also the area of living green grew by 4.5%.

All market participants assume that it will remain relatively stable in the second half of 2019. We will report on the annual results in the next few weeks on the RiPlant blog. These should then be a good template for the IPM.
