Do you know Bulbine – the „first-aid-plant“?

The cat tail plant is a species of flowering plant in the genus Bulbine and a true „first-aid-plant“.

It is a medicinal plant and native to southern Africa.  It has succulent leaves and grows easily in the ground as well as in pots on a balcony or verandah. The flower is yellow to orange and very decorative as they appear the whole summer. If a leaf is broken or cutted a gel pours out of the cutted part which is known to cure wounds,  infections and little irritations of the skin. The specific mix of substances is known to have antibacterial effects for small skin cuts and insect bites. Best you cut off a little piece of a leaf and let the gel drop on your wound or irritated skin. With such an exciting treatment every pain from a child goes quickly away. Keep in mind, the Bulbine will not replace to see  a doctor in case you have serious problems. And yes, the plant itself is an absolute eye-catcher in every garden.

Freshly and sustainably grown Bulbine medicus can now be purchased in our Riplant AG shop www.riplant.me
